The concept designs for the refurbishment of the school hall and canteen demonstrate that choosing to refurbish doesn’t mean compromising on design or aesthetics.
After working closely with St Bernard’s Parish Primary School to develop the Master Plan that will guide the school’s development in the years to come, we have continued to partner with the community to develop concept designs for its new learning centre.
As the first Catholic school in the Archdiocese run by the Sisters of St. Joseph, St Bernard’s has a proud history that dates back to 1890 and was often visited by Saint Mary MacKillop in its early years.
The design for the new learning centre focuses on celebrating the school and parishes’ rich history, faith and traditions that bind the community together.
As such, the contemporary architectural forms and materials of the building have been inspired by the Parish church and existing heritage buildings on the site.
Biblical symbols and a mural representing divine light within the façade ingrain the community’s faith in the building’s fabric, while the expanses of red brick on the exterior will ensure the new centre looks at home in the existing environment.
