The concept designs for the refurbishment of the school hall and canteen demonstrate that choosing to refurbish doesn’t mean compromising on design or aesthetics.
After completing the Master Plan for Rangebank Primary School, we continued to work closely and collaboratively with the school community to develop the design and plans for Stage 1 – the transformation of an existing building into a new STEAM and Junior Learning Centre, along with the development of new outdoor learning and play spaces.
Inspired by the school’s culturally diverse community and drawing on colour theories, the centre’s design integrates textures, shapes, primary colours and visual cues to stimulate students’ senses, evoke curiosity, and encourage critical thinking and interaction with the built form.
The gallery of the learning centre features flexible spaces defined not by walls or partitions, but by colour, material, and flexible furnishings, to support both passive and active learning, project work, presentations, and quiet reading in a single space. While, large, glass sliders in the STEAM centre allow for collaborative learning across different fields.
The flexibility and adaptability of various learning environments support and cater to diverse learning experiences, allowing the school and its educators to adapt and evolve their learning practices alongside the ever-evolving educational landscape.
Outside, sheltered and shaded areas and landscaped gardens provide a variety of spaces for outdoor learning, play, and connection with nature.
