Since developing the school’s Master Plan, we have continued to work closely and collaboratively with staff and students to develop concept designs for its new learning centre.
Choosing to refurbish a building rather than demolish and rebuild doesn’t mean compromising on design, aesthetics or functionality.
In fact, where appropriate, it can offer a host of benefits, including being more cost-effective, requiring less time on site, and being better for the environment, with less material going to landfill and lower overall embodied energy from new materials.
While contemporary in nature, these concept designs for the refurbishment of Our Lady’s Primary School in Craigieburn aim to preserve and strengthen the school community’s cultural identity.
The exterior, with its natural selection of materials and bright purple highlights, features subtle catholic symbols, such as the cross, ingraining the community’s faith within the building’s fabric.
Inside, natural material selections and colourful hues combine to create a modern and contemporary feel throughout the entrance, multipurpose space, canteen, amenities and storage space.
Once complete, the refurbished spaces will provide staff, students and the community with the space needed to embrace varied learning experiences, come together and connect.
