Each year the Victorian School Design Awards recognize the work of Victorian Architects who are working to help make Victorian schools world leaders in education. Finalists and winners are selected for the ‘innovation, creativity and practicality they have brought to designing new, or modernizing existing, Victorian public schools’.
In 2020 our practice was recognized for our work redeveloping South Yarra Primary School, receiving this highly coveted award.
An innovative approach to design
The school’s history, heritage and location meant that there were significant challenges. Using a collaborative and consultative approach, we were able to create an effective and innovative design solution to create world class learning facilities for the school.
The design solution was based on using modular construction methods to construct a new three-storey building, while minimising the disruption to the school and time on site. Existing facilities that had become dated and dilapidated were also upgraded and refurbished to enhance both student’s and staff’s learning and teaching experiences.
